Special features of functional properties in heterophase high-strength Ni50.2Ti37.3Hf12.5 polycrystals and single crystals
Stress-induced B 2- B 19' martensitic transformations (MTs) were studied in aged at 773 K, 3 h polycrystals and single crystals of Ni50.2Ti37.3Hf12.5 (at. %) alloy. Single crystals are characterized by much lower transformation temperatures (on 100 K) in comparison with polycrystals. Ageing of single crystals results in precipitation of H - and H '-phase particles with the size up to 15 nm, which lead to the significant strengthening of B 2-phase σ cr ( B 2) = 1540 MPa and the manifestation of superelasticity (SE) in temperature interval of 90 K. Low strength properties of B 2-phase σ cr ( B 2) = 950 MPa in polycrystals are caused by the precipitation of only H -phase particles and this is the reason of the absence of SE. Additional stress-induced martensite ageing (SIM-ageing) of polycrystals leads to the increase of strength properties of B 2-phase in 1.5 times up to 1450 MPa. This is the reason of the appearance of high-temperature SE in wide temperature interval of 110 K. Moreover, polycrystals after SIM-ageing are characterized by high transformation temperatures, lower temperature intervals of stress-induced MT and maximum reversible strain up to 2.0%.
