Effect of the configuration of a two-blade stirrer on the flow pattern of a viscous liquid in a mixer

Numerical modeling of viscous fluid flow in a mixing apparatus with a two-blade stirrer was performed in a plane approximation. An original calculation technique was developed based on the control volume method implemented on an unstructured grid, which allows taking into account the geometric features of the flow region. Various blade configurations were considered, the effect of their length and position relative to the central rod on the flow was investigated. For a qualitative analysis of mixing, calculations were made of the process of marker particle redistribution along the flow and two modes were identified. Using integral characteristics of heterogeneity and viscous dissipation, a comparative analysis of the considered configurations was performed.
