Shape memory effect in reversible γ↔ε martensitic transformation of the Fe–16Mn–10Cr–8Ni–4Si alloy single crystals
The development of the reversible γ↔ε martensitic transformation (MT) under stress and the magnitude of reversible strain εrev at a temperature of 77 K were studied on [001]- and [͞117]-oriented single crystals of the Fe-16Mn-10Cr-8Ni-4Si (wt.%) alloy under tension at successive increase of deformation in the «load-unloading» cycle and heating in a free state. It is shown that during the development of reversible γ↔ε MT in [001]-oriented crystals, the temperature dependence σ0.1( T ) shows degeneration of the stage associated with the formation of ε-martensite under stress. The magnitude of the reversible strain or shape memory effect was εrev = 2.2-2.3% in [001]-crystals and εrev = 5% in [͞117]-oriented crystals, which turned out to be significantly less than the theoretical value of the transformation strain during γ-ε MT for the corresponding orientation under tension. The physical factors limiting the value of the reversible strain in [001]- and [͞117]-oriented single crystals of the Fe-16Mn-10Cr-8Ni-4Si alloy are discussed.
