Influence of the composition of initial powders and sintering temperature on the structure and properties of aluminum oxide based ceramics
The effect of the batch composition (ratio of synthesized/electrofused mullite, content and dispersion of corundum) and sintering temperature (1550-1650 °C) on the structure and properties of mullite-corundum ceramics was studied. It was found that the optimal combination of strength, density, and shrinkage is achieved using mixed mullite raw materials and sintering at 1650 °C. The maximum strength was obtained at a corundum content of ~18 wt.% and a particle size of 60 μm.
