Electronic representation of a text as a way of its storage and enrichment

Today the main channel for text storage and distribution is electronic library (e-library). There are many people involved in digitization process. Some of them can interfere in author’s text. Furthermore, methods of digitization and network technologies of storage are yet imperfect. As a result the problem of e-library content quality appears. Where is the border between completeness and authority of content? How can e-library help scientists to work with text? There are a number of large network library projects in the world, e.g. Project “Gutenberg”, Google Books, etc. In Russia, private initiatives exceed organizational projects in usage and impact. For example, in 1994 an e-library was opened by Maxim Moshkov, a programmer from Moscow. It contained 28 thousand texts in 2000 while Project “Gutenberg” had only 3 thousand. Unfortunately, such e-libraries are characterized by occasional formation of funds and a low textological base. Russian professional philologists came to the scope of e-libraries in the late 1990s. “Russian Virtual Library” and “Fundamental Digital Library "Russian Literature & Folklore"” were opened. These e- libraries contain digitized books from the most authoritative publications, supplied with comments and hyperlinks. Electronic publication can enrich the content of books. Hypertext simplifies work with omnibus editions. The printed omnibus edition is plenty of books with low mobility, big weight and inconvenient reference apparatus. The electronic omnibus edition represents a complex of texts and hyperlinks with instantaneous transition between them. The electronic omnibus edition can also include multimedia content. The article analyzes advantages of such publications in detail through the example of the electronic scientific publication “Griboyedov”. It is obvious that focus on quality is possible only in a specialized library. If dreams about the global universal library which contains all written heritage of humanity come true sometime, it will not be a monolithic centralized organization. It will be a multilevel hierarchy that combines professional e-libraries in different fields of knowledge.
