Handwritten textbooks in the collection of the Department of Rare Books and Manuscripts of the Research Library of Tomsk State University
The author of the article gives an overview of a textbook stored in the collection of collection of the Department of Rare Books and Manuscripts of the Research Library of Tomsk State University. The author studied five manuscripts of the 18th century (two copies of "Arithmetic" by L. Magnitsky, two copies of historical works and "Kratkaya nemetskaya grammatika" (An Abridged Course of German Grammar)); manuscripts of the first half of the 19th century (Two Old Believer ABCs, four pieces of medical notes, three manuscripts on philosophy and logic, a number of manuscripts written by members of the clergy, two manuscripts intended for teaching the heir to the throne, and a copy of the thesis for the degree of the Candidate of Philosophy at Kazan University). Three Old Believer ABCs and a work on medicine can be dated by the second half of the 19th century, are three ABCs and a work on medicine, but it is preliminary data, as the description of this part of the collection is not yet complete. A review of these manuscripts showed that handwritten textbooks of the 18 th—19 th centuries are different both thematically and typologically. Their owners are different, too. The documents described in the paper allow tracing the educational paradigm shift from the utilitarianism in the early 18th century to the universalization of the 19th century. The evolution of the typology of educational books shows the changes in educational practices.
