Analytical reports on the activities of the modern rural library as a source of reading preferences study

Modern Rural Library is a social service institution designed to solve many problems. Activities of the rural library are evaluated according to different sources. The most informative of these are the materials of library analytics, including both planning and reporting, organizational and methodological documentation, and the results of its analytical processing. Analytical work in the library has a long historical tradition, its objectives, and assumes a certain methodology. Its materials can show reading preferences of different categories of library users who actively influence the goals and objectives of the library, the formation of the library collection, the types of events, the level of basic statistical indicators used to assess the activities of the library. The term "reading preferences" in the article is understood as a primary attention to the choice of particular literature determined by the vital interests (moral, intellectual, professional, educational) and conscious needs of readers. Reading preferences in literature are quite diverse and can be structured on a variety of grounds. The study of the analytical report on the activities of municipal libraries of Chainsky District of Tomsk Oblast showed that rural libraries are active users of both traditional and e-book products. This situation is due not only to the library collection profile and the reading preferences, but also to the requirements of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions for the renewal of the library fund. Rural libraries are active in the formation and development of needs in reading for different categories of users. Especially effective is to work with children and adolescents who are a priority reader category for rural libraries, and constitute about 25 % of the total number of readers. Rural libraries have an opportunity to shape the reader's interest to specific publications, to participate in advertising and promotion of novelties of the book market. Professional literature describes the practical experience of individual libraries in creating and using book trailers, small promotional videos telling about a book in an interesting and easy way. Rural libraries can serve as a platform for carrying out sociological studies on the reading preferences of villagers. Given that most of the population of the region (68 %) are the local Centralized Library System readers, such studies will be the credible and representative. Finally, rural libraries are active in the formation and development of the information culture of readers, including the development of reading skills. In particular, it is opportunities of finding necessary information with the use of traditional and modern information technology; knowledge of the characteristics of modern information flow; ability to work with the text, apply the skills of data analysis and interpretation; ability to structure the material and make grounded conclusions; promote respect for books and understanding the value of the reading process in all spheres of life of the individual. The possibilities of rural libraries in the formation of reading preferences are limited to the difficult financial situation in the sphere of culture. A solution to the problem of using the potential of rural libraries and improving their efficiency is target programs from publishers and book distributors, offering a variety of charitable and promotional activities, developing a system of discounts and mutually beneficial cooperation.
