Translations by Evgeny Korsch in Biblioteka Dlya Chteniya (1834-1837). Part 2
The paper describes the translations by Evgeny Fedorovich Korsch in the journal Biblioteka dlya chteniya [Library for Reading]. E.F. Korsch (1809-1897) participated in the publication of many well-known newspapers and journals; he was an authoritative editor. But, unfortunately, his personality and activities are forgotten at the moment, and require a study to establish an overall picture of Russian literature and publishing processes of the 1830s-1850s and the role E.F. Korsch played. The first part of the article presents a list of publications whose authorship belongs to Korsh. From this list, translations of literary works were considered in the first article. In this (second) part of the article, translations of analytical articles, surveys, reviews (9 articles) and prose translations of "in-between" genres (5 articles) are examined. Some of the publications were written by Korsh. These are four articles: "Essays on Italy, Portugal and Spain", "The Latest Elegant Literature in Germany", "Felicia Hemans and William Wordsworth", "Middle Asia. Travels of Muravyov, Meyendorff, Conolly and Burnes". Many of the publications of Korsh were translated from British magazines such as New Monthly Маgаzine, Quarterly Review, Foreign Quarterly Review, Edinburgh Review. These are articles like "Mrs. Inchbald, Her Life and Works", "The Rhine Pilgrims", "On the State of the French Drama", "Marvelous Divas", "Goethe in His Posthumous Works", "Coleridge", "Feelings, Abilities and Passions of Fish", "Philosophy and Philosophical Criticism of Mr. Cousin", "Travels by Tyerman and Bennet". Also one article has been translated from the French almanac Annuaire du Bureau des longitudes - "Double and Triple Stars". The considered publications suggest that the contribution of E.F. Korsch to the development of the journal Biblioteka dlya chteniya was significant. These publications reflect the interest of the reader community, they helped to form the taste of readers and were a reaction to the most recent developments in the literary process of the time.
