Leskov's At Daggers Drawn : prospective semantics of the concept "recent wounds"
The article deals with the prospective senses of the "recent wounds" concept (and the anthonymic "old wounds") in Nikolay Leskov's anti-nihilist novel At Daggers Drawn (Rus. Na nozhakh) Research is based on papers and monographs by Sperrle, Aizelwood, Marcade, Starygina, Vinitsky and Sukhodolsky. Modern dictionaries of the author discourse can present trivial semantics of words, idioms, sentences, but do not present prospective plot semantics. In the first part of the article, the "semantic radius" of the titles of the novels Nowhere and At Daggers Drawn is analyzed. The communicative situations of Gordanov / Vanskok, Vanskok / Vyslenev, Gordanov / Vyslenev, as well as the change in the usual meaning of the word combination, the deformation of its semantics in the discourse of the active language personality (Gordanov), are considered. It should be noted that Leskov's prose, monologic in essence, implies the merger of the voice of the author and the hero, which is due to the presence of some general knowledge: the hero knows what is known to the author, becomes involved in his worldview, and the facts reported by the author become facts in the minds of his heroes. The author as if delegates part of his competences to the hero, who has the opportunity to anticipate the further effect of the work with his speech behavior. The second part of the article describes the emerging correlations between speech and plot formulas, when the characters find a certain embodiment in the plot of the novel. Of course, the prospective meaning of the word combination, which is the con-notative level of its semantics, promotes the consolidation of individual episodes, text cohesion. Obviously, through this, the completeness and stability of the leitmotif structure is achieved. From this point of view, the novel At Daggers Drawn seems to be a truly completed form. One of the ways of such completion is the identification of speech formulas with plot formulas whose repetition forms the leitmotif net of the text. The description of this net opens up new possibilities in understanding prospective and retrospective relationships between words and plot combinations in the artistic text. In conclusion, it is stated that the lexicographic description of the prospective meaning of a word or phrase in an artistic text should imply 1) the interpretation of a word / phrase; 2) a description of the concept and its function in the artistic culture; 3) "immanent analysis" of the artistic text, suggesting a reasoned search for correlations between formulas of different levels. The solution of this problem and its presentation in the form of a dictionary, in the author's opinion, allows to find new intersection points in the linguistic and literary analysis of the text.
