Features of editorial analysis of workbooks for university students
The strategic objectives of the modernization of the system of Russian higher education influence the formation of a new system of textbook publishing. The changes affected the technology of editorial and publishing preproduction of textbooks. At present, there is a rich theoretical material about creating and editing traditional study books - the textbook and the study guide. Editors use modern empirically developed methods and techniques to work with editions innovative for higher education, providing, in the first place, content for applied and independent students' activities. One is an integrated (multi-function) workbook for university students (WB). The teaching, functional and structural properties of WB presented in scientific and pedagogical studies may be the basis for the development of the principles of editorial analysis of WB. The outline of WB has its own features. It should specify the teaching materials and the study program of the discipline it was created for. Assessing the technical properties of the manuscript: the estimated volume, format, type of cover, type of binding, the editor follows the existing regulatory documents and functional features of WB use in the educational process. The text of WB manuscript must have author's instructions on working with blank sheets (spaces for task completion) or the full version of the text with model answers to the questions and assignments. The technology of WB analysis on the editorial stage of editorial and publishing preproduction is mostly traditional. Still it has some peculiarities concerning the composition of the edition (it has blocks of instructions, tasks and activities, and assessment), its rubrication, and end matter. Thus, WB has a number of features that authors must consider when creating, and editors - when planning, analysing and preproduction of such a manuscript.
