Features of the development of the institution of property relations in the Indian economy
This article examines the peculiarities of the development of the institution of property in India. It represents a unique, multilayered phenomenon that reflects traditional mechanisms rooted in ancient Indian religious-legal treatises, Islamic law, and Western traditions of private property. The study highlights the differences in approaches to the implementation of property rights within the framework of two legal traditions that emerged in the post-Vedic period - Dayabhaga and Mitakshara - as well as the institution of waqf property, which is based on Islamic law and serves as a foundation for financing socially and culturally significant institutions and the production of merit goods. The authors declare no conflicts of interests.
